FC Barcelona Legends Tour Uganda, Go Gorilla Tracking

The FC Barcelona Legends have arrived in Uganda on a campaign to promote Uganda as a preferred tourism destination. Edgar Davids was the first to arrive yesterday afternoon with the rest of the team arriving last night.

The Barcelona stars are here as part of the campaign to promote Uganda as the preferred tourism destination. Uganda Tourism Board, are the major sponsors of the trip.

“Tourism is now one of the major drivers of foreign earnings and the Government of Uganda is investing to grow both tourism numbers and investments. Sports is one of the vehicles we are using,” says Stephen Asiimwe the CEO of the Uganda Tourism Board.

“Uganda is a great country – the Pearl of Africa – and we know the Barcelona legends will enjoy it. When Kluivert visited Kampala a few months ago, he said he would come back. The team is now here.”

He adds that the exhibition match is an opportunity for Ugandans to see their stars play at the Nelson Mandela National Stadium in Namboole just outside Kampala.

Beginning off their tour, the #FCBarcelona Legends are tracking gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. Of the 880 mountain gorillas left in the world, over 400 are found in Bwindi. After tracking gorillas, the players will then fly north to the Murchison Falls National Park where they will go on a game drive safari, boat cruise on the Nile and a hike at the Murchison Falls. Murchison Falls is the most powerful waterfall in the world. At this point, the Nile squeezes through a six metre wide gorge as it journeys to Egypt.

After the safaris, the #FCBarcelona Legends have a number of engagement in Kampala including a dinner hosted by the First Lady of Uganda in support of UNICEF.

The highlight of the tour is an exhibition match when #FCBarcelona Legends play against the Uganda Cranes on 12 December. President Museveni is expected to kick off the match at Namboole.

Match tickets are going for UGX30,000 ordinary and UGX150,000 for VIP. These can be purchased at all payway outlets around the country.
