Uganda Recognized for Promoting African Culture
The Georgia house of representatives credited Uganda for its positive promotion of African heritage that influences the residents of Georgia

Uganda has been recognized as one of the countries that promotes African norms in the world.
The recognition was made last week by the House of Representatives of Georgia State during the celebration of annual African Day.
In the statement read by Georgia State Representative Erica Thomas, the house credited Uganda for its positive promotion of African heritage that influences the residents of Georgia in cultural, political, economic and social well-being of the state.
''The African community has contributed positively to economic, social and political development of Georgia so our state seeks to build a positive relationship with African countries and the people of Africa due the positive impact on lives of Georgia's residents''
Baker Kabanda the board member of the Ugandan North American Association (Atlanta chapter) attended the function.
Presiding over the ceremony, the chairperson of the Georgia Black Legislative Caucus, Dee Dawkins Hiigler encouraged Americans especially of black decent; to visit Africa saying the continent is rich and abundant with lots of resource.
“You should not be afraid, based on what you hear that there is no running water in Africa, wars and disease. Africa has the best resources ever on this earth, conducive all year weather condition, and environment. Don't be misled,” Hiigler said.
The honorary consul of Uganda to USA Jack Ellis with UNAA (Atlanta chapter) board member Baker Kabanda after receiving the award.
She added that Africans need to learn to trust each other, noting that no one will take care of Africa and African Americans, unless they take the initiative.
She commended Robert Mugabe's stance on African resources, saying although his approach is very radical, he means well for the continent.
Hiigler tasked African countries to encourage girl education saying when you teach a man you educate a man but when you teach the women you educate a nation.
She paid tribute to Liberian head of state Ellen Sirleaf Johnson the first female African president.
Hiigler promised to work tirelessly to get funding and help people interested in doing trade and investing in Africa as the only way to market Africa in developed countries.
Speaking after receiving the award on behalf of the Uganda community, the honorary consul of Uganda to USA Jack Ellis, hailed the good relationship between the two countries. He said this will increase on tourism as well as promoting the image of Uganda.
The occasion was graced by Georgia State Senator James Donzella, Georgia state representative, Sheila Jones, government officials and representatives from African countries.
